Did you know that Spanish culture and design remain largely unknown in Thailand? Despite the immense talent and creativity that characterise our sector, its recognition in this Asian country is still limited. The Bangkok Spanish Design Week 2024 aims to highlight the excellence of Spanish design, celebrating its global impact while fostering a space for cultural exchange between Asia and Spanish-speaking countries through exhibitions and talks.

Founded in 2020 by Myriam Rueda, MESA312 is a cultural laboratory with the mission to create a space for collaboration and innovation among designers from different cultures. Based in Bangkok, MESA312 has become a meeting point for creative talents, offering opportunities that connect designers with both local and international projects.

Under the concept of ICONIC vs TALENT, we celebrate the pioneers of Spanish design, highlighting the inventors of everyday products and historical milestones. We also honour iconic designers who have set trends, alongside emerging talents who bring creativity and innovation to the current landscape.

The BSDW24 will take place in the Song Wat area of Chinatown, featuring exhibitions across various spaces. Original products and archival photographs will be showcased, each accompanied by detailed descriptions to help visitors understand the significance of each design and its creative process.

You might be wondering about NOMON DESIGN’s connection to Bangkok and what inspired us to co-create this event alongside Myriam Rueda, founder of MESA312 and the driving force behind the project.

Our relationship with Myriam goes back to 2003, when she joined NOMON DESIGN as a graphic designer. Over five years, the bond extended far beyond the professional. During that time, a special connection was formed, particularly with Esther Agustench, the agency’s creative director and current president of ADG-FAD.

Despite the thousands of kilometres between them, their friendship has endured and grown stronger over the years.

So, when Myriam approached Esther with the idea of co-organising this event, there was no hesitation. The NOMON DESIGN team wholeheartedly embraced her vision and the unique opportunity to showcase Spanish design in this Asian country.

Collaborating with Myriam over these past months has been more than a professional experience; it has been a reunion filled with creativity, excitement, and teamwork. It felt as though Myriam had never left the team.

Because, for us, once a NOMON, always a NOMON.
